*********UPDATE ********

On 10/07/17, Troopers from the Williston barracks investigated a burglary to a residence in the town of Bolton.  Troopers had investigated multiple burglaries in the Chittenden and Washington County areas in the preceding months.  In the Bolton burglary, investigation revealed that amongst other items stolen, the victim’s credit card was also taken.  Subsequently investigation revealed that it had been used at the Sheldon mini-mart in Sheldon.  Video surveillance of the transaction showed Savo and Legacy in possession of the card.

On 10/13/17, Trooper Warner applied for and was granted a search warrant for the residence of Savo and Legacy in Burlington and for their vehicle, a Toyota Avalon.  The search warrant on the residence was executed on this date with evidence recovered.  Neither Savo, Legacy or the Toyota Avalon was present at the time of the warrant on the residence.

Investigation revealed that Savo was on parole with the Department of Corrections for multiple counts of burglary/bad checks/resisting arrest/unlawful trespass/petty larceny/false personation and escape.

On 10/20/17, Sergeant Warner attempted to contact Savo at a scheduled appointment he had with probation and parole; however, Savo did not show for the appointment.

On 10/20/17, Sergeant Warner applied for an arrest warrant against Savo for the offense of false pretense and possession of stolen property.

At approximately 1412 hours, State Police Detective Sgt Kamerling spotted the Toyota Avalon with matching Vt license plate on Barber Farm road in the town of Jericho.  Detective Kamerling stopped the car and identified the driver as Savo and passenger as Legacy.  Detective Kamerling attempted to take Savo into custody; however, Savo refused to comply with orders and fled the stop driving the Avalon.

During the ensuing pursuit, Detective Metayer attempted to box Savo in a driveway in Jericho.  Savo accelerated his vehicle into the driver’s side of Detective Metayer’s cruiser and continued to flee, refusing to stop.

Multiple agencies responded to assist to include Waterbury PD, Richmond PD, Williston PD, Chittenden County Sheriff’s department, Department of Motor Vehicles Inspectors, Stowe PD, Morristown PD and Vt Fish and Game.  At one point in the pursuit, Chief Alan Buck of Richmond Police Department suffered a medical event and had to be taken to UVM Medical Center.  There is no further information at this time regarding his condition.

The pursuit continued through multiple roadways into the towns of Richmond, Waterbury and subsequently Stowe.  While being pursued, items were thrown from the vehicle which were recovered and later identified as stolen property from a burglary that had occurred the town of Underhill on 10/20/17.  The pursuit ended with the loss of sight of the vehicle in the area of Moscow road in Stowe.  Subsequently witnesses called and directed officers to the Trout club in the area known as Nebraska Valley where the vehicle had been sighted.  Upon contact, officers confirmed this was the Toyota Avalon and it was unoccupied.

A team of officers from several departments along with a canine unit deployed and were able to gain a scent trail from the abandoned car.   The team tracked approximately 3 miles into the woods in a northerly direction.  A secondary apprehension team was assembled in the area of Nebraska Notch trail head on Stevensville road in Underhill (north of the tracking team’s direction).  At approximately 1950 hours, both Savo and Legacy were encountered by the apprehension team and taken into custody without incident.

Savo was brought to the Williston barracks and subsequently lodged on $25,000 bail on charges of careless and negligent operation, attempting to elude, aggravated assault on protected professional, possession of stolen property and burglary.  Furthermore, his parole was revoked by the department of corrections.  These charges were in addition to the previous charges mentioned in the arrest warrant that was filed on 10/20/17.  Legacy was issued a citation for possession of stolen property.

The departments involved in this incident would like to thank the public for their assistance and calls that directed officers with sightings of the vehicle.
